What kind of cases do you take?
I restrict my practice to criminal defence and closely associated matters such as civil forfeiture and seizures of money or property. If you have a family law matter, a civil matter, or a complaint about the police that did not result in criminal charges, I am unable to assist you. If you have a criminal charge, or if the police or other authorities have seized money or property from you, I encourage you to call me to discuss your problem.
Are you going to provide aggressive representation?
Yes, to the extent it would benefit you, I will always be aggressive. I don’t try to score worthless points by making your prosecution more laborious for a prosecutor. I do explore any possible defence or tactic that may benefit you. I will always take the approach that I think gives you the best chance of success.
I will not fight with a prosecutor about an issue that will not ultimately benefit you. This approach makes prosecutors more open to my suggestions about what might be a reasonable compromise to stop their prosecutions.
Sometimes, we cannot get an acceptable agreement with a prosecutor, and we must fight it out at trial.
I believe this approach is ultimately in the service of my clients.
Can you handle my case?
Almost certainly. Call me and get an honest answer. I have experience with every kind of criminal charge. I occasionally intentionally limit my caseload to allow me to provide the best possible service to my clients. I think it is important that you are able to call your lawyer and get a prompt answer to a reasonable question. I don’t adjourn my clients’ cases because I am too busy to figure out their next step. I am always ready to deal with my cases on the next court date. This means almost all my clients are very pleased with my efforts almost all the time.
Why is your website so sparse?
Anyone can pay to create a slick website. I am primarily a lawyer, not a businessman. Call me and talk to a lawyer about your legal problem. I don’t spend much time updating my website to attract business, or paying someone to do this and passing the cost on to you.
Are you confident I can win?
I am confident in the advice I give you. I will not give you advice meant to entice you into paying me to be your lawyer. I will do what it takes to get you the best possible result, but I will tell you what I believe is the best possible result. Sometimes, this is not a desirable result. Often I achieve a better result than my clients expected. Every case is unique on its facts, and on the law as it pertains to the facts.
Your best bet is to call me and talk to me. I am happy to take calls on a no-obligation basis. If you want to keep shopping for another lawyer, I encourage you to make some more calls. Most people who call me realize that I will spend the time to get to know them. They understand that I will spend the time to get to know their case, and learn their particular concerns about the result.
